WHAT’S THE LATEST

On July 7, President Trump issued an Executive Order extending the implementation deadline for reciprocal tariffs from July 9 to August 1.

These tariffs were initially announced on April 2 and temporarily suspended for a 90-day period beginning April 9. The extension to August 1 allows additional time for negotiation with trading partners. Notably, this delay does not affect goods of Chinese origin, as Executive Order 14298 – “Modifying Reciprocal Tariff Rates To Reflect Discussions With the People’s Republic of China” - issued on May 12, remains in effect for those products.

Although individual letters outlining proposed tariff rates have been sent to several countries, the details remain subject to change ahead of the new deadline.
