WHAT’S THE LATEST

Super Typhoon Ragasa is expected to hit the South China coast on the early morning of Wednesday, September 24. Hurricane-force winds with speeds of up to 230km/h (137mph) are expected over the coming days, so some air and ocean freight delays are to be expected.

WHAT WE KNOW

Air Freight: The Hong Kong’s Airport Authority has confirmed that there will be a “significant reduction of landing and departure” of aircraft from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and most “flight movements” will be affected on Wednesday, impacting around 700 flights. Cathay Pacific shared that they expect to cancel 500 flights.
 
Ocean Freight: Port operations in Yantian, Nansha and Shekou have ceased operating today in preparation for the upcoming typhoon. Hong Kong port operations have stopped receiving cargo and ceased operations this afternoon, in preparation for the typhoon.

  • Hong Kong Office – All schools will be closed from tomorrow, and all office workers must leave work and return home once the Hong Kong Observatory issues a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or higher, which is expected to be raised on Tuesday, September 23 between 1-4 p.m. All staff members will be prepared to work from home for the duration of the typhoon.
  • South China – 400,000 people are being evacuated from coastal and low-lying regions. Multiple cities in Guangdong province have announced that classes and work will be cancelled tomorrow. The SEKO Shenzhen and Guangzhou office will remain open tomorrow; we will update if the situation changes.
  • Taiwan – All schools and businesses are open as usual tomorrow.

WHAT'S NEXT?

We will keep you updated as the typhoon approaches and we have more information. SEKO's Hong Kong and South China local offices will implement a work from home policy according to Typhoon warnings, and all staff are fully prepared to work from home when required.
