Humanitarian Aid to Darfur: The World's Largest Displacement Crisis
The war in Sudan has created an unprecedented level of displacement with more than 12 million people being displaced since April 2023.
The lack of resources in places such as South Sudan and Chad, who have welcomed Sudanese refugees, continues to be a major crisis where humanitarian aid is critical.
Delivering Temperature-Controlled Pharmaceuticals to Darfur
SEKO Logistics Aid & Relief recently supported the delivery of temperature-controlled pharmaceutical supplies to Darfur, in close cooperation with Airlink, IMRES, and the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
The shipment consisted of 40 pallets of pharmaceuticals, with a total weight of 20,086.5 kg and a required temperature range of 15–25°C.
The aid cargo was collected under temperature-controlled conditions at IMRES in Lelystad in the Netherlands, before being transported to Liège Airport in Belgium and flown on a part charter to N’Djamena (NDJ), the capital of Chad.
Upon arrival, after clearing the goods through customs, the shipment of medical supplies was transferred into two temperature-controlled trucks for the final overland leg to El Geneina in Sudan, a key humanitarian access point for Darfur.
Maintaining the required temperature range throughout the journey was critical to ensure the integrity of the medical supplies.
This operation highlights how coordinated humanitarian logistics enables life-saving medical assistance to reach crisis-affected communities, even in challenging environments and across borders.

Supply Chain Partnerships for Humanitarian Aid
Working in partnership with the SEKO Aid & Relief experts in Amsterdam, Airlink, IMRES, and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) worked together to ensure the humanitarian aid reached Darfur. The part-charter included medicines for children and pregnant women, as well as critical treatments that supported patients in remote areas
The shipment provided the ability to sustain uninterrupted healthcare delivery in regions where local supply systems have collapsed. It provided high-impact intervention to ensure live-saving medicines could reach communities in need, efficiently, safely, and without delay.
Medicines included: a choice of vaccinations, treatment of communicable diseases, management of severe acute malnutrition, with care being customized depending on the patient’s condition and needs.
An estimated 120,000 people will be benefit from accessing healthcare services in North and Central Darfur thanks to this collaboration.
This is just one of many examples of the important work that is taking place to ensure critical supplies reach their final destination in areas of the world that are in crisis.
Humanitarian aid work requires seamless communication and strong collaboration amongst all partners in some of the most challenging environments.
