WHAT’S THE LATEST

On August 6, President Trump issued an Executive Order imposing an additional 25% tariff on certain goods imported from India, effective August 27 at 12:01 a.m. ET. Combined with the 25% modified reciprocal tariff that took effect on August 7, Indian goods will face a 50% total tariff beginning on August 27.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • The additional 25% tariff is effective on all goods except for:
    • Goods that:
      •  (1) Were loaded onto a vessel at the port of loading and in transit on the final mode of transit prior to entry into the United States before 12:01 a.m. ET on August 27; and
      • (2) Are entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, before 12:01 a.m. ET on September 17.
    • Items subject to existing or future actions under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
  • Further exemptions to the additional tariff are the same as specified in previous IEEPA orders.
  • Additional countries may be added to this order and the order may be amended in response to any retaliatory tariffs placed on U.S. imports by another country.
